Épitaphe

ENJMIN 2008 Mini-Project

Project

Épitaphe is a "mini-project" done in four months in our first year at ENJMIN, a french school of video games and digital interactive medias. The exercise is to make a full playable game of ten minutes, no more, that will be played, the day of the presentation, by a random person.

It is an experiment on how death of the player can lead to victory in a video game.

Story

We didn't implemented a proper story in this game, but here is more or less what we kept in mind while doing it : You control Timothé, a kid lost in an old manor. He was blessed by a "power" : when he dies, he can revive again near is corpse, but after his first death, he losts his soul. Help him find why he was blessed with that power and find his soul again.

Configuration

Minimum configuration should be the following :

There was not enough time to correctly optimize the game so you need a pretty high end computer to play the game correctly. If your computer isn't fast enough (>60FPS) the game will run slower than it should...

Controls

Controls are really simple in this game, just use the joystick of a gamepad to control the character and all the other actions you can do are done by pressing a single button. With a Xbox 360 gamepad, use left joystick and the A button.

You can play with a keyboard too, but a gamepad is highly prefered to move in 360° directions. Use the arrow keys and the spacebar.
